In 2017, ICG brought in Jesse N. Thomas, MS, CSCS, as a consultant to serve as International Master Trainer for Team ICG North America. His job was to build the team that trains ICG’s indoor cycling instructors, and to make power-based training easier to understand and easier to teach.

The challenge
Training with a power meter can be confusing. Coach By Color uses color-coded training zones to make power data visible on the bike, but instructors still need to understand what the numbers mean and how to coach a class with them. ICG needed a North American master trainer team, and instructor education that made power training simple to learn and simple to teach.

- Helped redesign the instructor training curriculum that teaches master trainers the Coach By Color power training platform on ICG indoor cycles

Why it worked
The work followed the same principle behind everything Jesse does: bridge the gap between exercise science and practical application. Power and training zones are rooted in physiology, but instructors need language and methods they can use in front of a class. Turning one into the other is what made the education easier to teach.
